Taotie, a heavenly ogre, was banished to the mortal world for gluttony—reincarnated as Gu Zhao, the legitimate son of the Prime Minister’s mansion who’s feared as a “disaster star.” Blamed for his mother’s death at birth, even his father threw him into the firewood shed to fend for himself. But one day, he sneaked out and accidentally saved Princess Li Zhaozhao from assassins. Strangely enough, whenever he’s with Zhaozhao, Gu Zhao’s “disaster luck” magically flips to “lucky buff”: stepping on dog poop leads to gold ingots, bitter medicine comes with hidden candies, and even the knife meant to kill him breaks! Zhaozhao also discovers that this “calamity star” who “killed his mother” is actually a soft-hearted fool—he gives his only sesame cake to stray cats and stands in front of her when she’s bullied. But as their love deepens, heavenly punishment strikes: Gu Zhao’s good fortune is actually Zhaozhao’s fate shielding him. If this continues, Zhaozhao will vanish forever! Between love and her life, what choice will Gu Zhao make? His decision holds a truth more painful than any heavenly secret.
