Shen Zhaoning, the national female general, is betrothed to Chu Heng—a sickly prince said to have killed three concubines—via the late emperor's edict right after her triumph. She presses a sword to Chu Heng's throat, cursing, "How dare a living dead marry me?" but freezes when she sees him cough up black blood: Chu Heng was poisoned by the treacherous prime minister and feigns weakness to survive! Chu Heng grabs her sword: "Kill me, and your whole family will be wiped out by the prime minister." Gritting her teeth, Shen stays—using army-learned medicine to detoxify him, military power to rally his old troops. Chu uses his prince status to block the queen's "poisoned wine" for her. From mutual threats to sharing life and death, they investigate the poison source while evading assassinations. When Chu recovers, they topple the prime minister, find evidence of the late emperor's poisoning, and Chu ascends the throne. Shen transforms from a "sword-wielding cursing general" to a "queen sharing power with the emperor"—this forced marriage becomes their fiercest redemption.
