Princess Shen Zhaoning and her驸马 Gu Yanzhi were childhood sweethearts, but on the day of her coronation as queen, she was tricked by her husband into drinking a fatal poison, leaving her with only seven days to live. She wanted to end in hatred, but when she found their engagement jade pendant, she remembered Gu Yanzhi’s promise: "I’ll give you the sweetest honey in the world"—a vow from their unmarried days. In despair, she let go of resentment and spent her last seven days on "small wishes": watering the plum trees in the imperial garden one last time, begging for a pardon for the old cook in the imperial kitchen, and even meeting the maid she’d wrongfully banished... But on the sixth day, when she pushed open Gu Yanzhi’s study, she saw walls covered with her portraits and a blood-stained, unfinished letter: "Ning’er, that wine was life-extending medicine I traded my blood for. The emperor always wanted to kill you..." It turned out his "betrayal" was actually taking the emperor’s poisoned wine for her.
