Lin Xiaoman, a part-time worker at a convenience store, is an "invisible" extra. One late night, she meets Shen Yanqing, who is squatting at the alley entrance picking up expired bread—he gives the only half of his bread to a stray cat, his fingers covered in dust but his smile gentle. She impulsively "kidnaps" him back to her rental apartment, thinking she's saving a stranded person, but she doesn't notice the burn scar hidden under his cuff, the anonymous threat messages at night, or the "fear of getting close" in his eyes when he looks at her. When Shen Yanqing's enemies show up and she learns he was once the young master of the multi-billion-dollar Shen Group, Lin Xiaoman realizes: what she brought back isn't a stray cat, but a rose with thorns—she wants to warm his coldness, but is afraid of being pricked by his thorns.
