When modern illustrator Lin Xiaoxia accidentally triggers a charm while creating Classic of Mountains and Seas-themed illustrations, she crosses into a secret realm of mythical beasts and meets Bai Ze—the ancient divine beast guarding the Compendium of Myriad Beasts. Bai Ze’s cultivation is damaged due to scattered pages, so he binds Xiaoxia, a mortal with unique vitality perception, to retrieve the fragments. On their journey, they solve crises for other beasts, develop feelings for each other, and fend off evil monks coveting the compendium. But they don’t know their encounter hides an ancient curse, and the compendium’s loss is linked to Xiaoxia’s own life secret.
