During a devastating famine, Lin Xiaoman, a peasant’s daughter, faces starvation as her parents are bedridden and her little brother is helpless. While villagers flee or struggle to survive, Xiaoman—with a modern chef’s soul—creates delicious medicinal meals from overlooked wild veggies and fungi. This feeds her family and catches Shen Yanqing’s eye, the fallen son of an exiled imperial censor living incognito. From caution over their status gap to deep affection, they foil local gentry’s extortion and thugs’ harassment. Xiaoman holds her family together with cooking, unknowingly getting tangled in an old court case, forging a legendary romance of counterattack in desperate times.
