Lin Xiaoman (played by Ge Xiaoxi), a modern architectural designer, accidentally travels to the Republican-era city of Gui Zhou by touching her family heirloom jade pendant, and bumps into Marshal Gu Zhaozhou (played by Zhang Yiyang), who is investigating a military grain theft. Gu Zhaozhou mistakes her for a "spy" and detains her. To prove her innocence, Lin Xiaoman is forced into the conspiracy, only to find that Gu Zhaozhou's obsession with protecting Gui Zhou exactly matches the "old city" that repeatedly appears in her dreams. When the mastermind of the grain case points to Gu Zhaozhou's trusted aide and the jade pendant reveals the prophecy of "Gui Zhou's fall", Lin Xiaoman must choose between returning to the modern world and saving her lover—little does she know, this "dream" is a reunion fate had long arranged.
