Lin Yaoyao, a cultural relic restorer, has waited for five years for her archaeologist boyfriend Gu Jingshen, who went missing, clinging to half a jade pendant he left behind. One day, an anonymous package from Dunhuang breaks the calm—inside is the other half of the pendant and a note saying "Mogao Grottoes Cave 217." She rushes to Dunhuang immediately, only to get involved in a Western Xia Buddha head looting case: it turns out Gu Jingshen faked his disappearance to protect the Buddha head from being stolen, hiding his identity and dealing with looters all these years. When they reunite in front of the grotto, Gu's "death truth," their five-year misunderstanding, and the looters' pursuit all come to light under the murals. The reunited jade pendant, once a promise of "being together in life and death," proves that the deepest wait will always get an echo.
