Lin Sheng, a classical painting restorer, finds a half-bamboo flute carved with "Hearing the Flute, Knowing You" in a redwood box at an old Jiangnan ferry. Playing it sends her into a Republican-era dream—she was a runaway rich girl, and Gu Ye a poor ferryman. They vowed "never betray till death," but Gu Ye was shot protecting her, dying at the ferry. In reality, Lin Sheng learns Gu Ye’s descendants are searching for a Republican-era file with her photo; yet in the dream, Gu Ye keeps saying "stop investigating," as if hiding something. When she uncovers the file’s truth, she finds Gu Ye’s "death" was a lie to protect her—and his soul has been trapped in the flute, waiting for her for 80 years...
