Lin Wan, the "night watcher" at a funeral parlor, is actually a Yama envoy hiding among humans, tasked with collecting the souls of those whose time has come. Out of compassion, she breaks the rules to save Gu Chuan, a detective being chased—who is the key witness to the serial "death notice" murders. When investigating, Gu Chuan finds all victims had contact with Lin Wan before death. He suspects her as the killer yet is drawn to her gentle warmth beneath her cold exterior. As the case points to her Yama identity, Gu Chuan faces a choice between justice and love, while Lin Wan's long-hidden curse of "not being able to love humans" gradually unfolds amid their entanglement.
