Jiang Xiaotang, a famine refugee, risks her life to enter the mountains for medicine for her critically ill mother, only to save Chu Yan, a severely injured and amnesiac boy. Thinking he's an ordinary refugee, Xiaotang takes him on her escape—sharing half her only steamed bun, wrapping him in her thin coat at night in a broken temple, even selling her mother's silver hairpin to treat his wounds. Little does she know, this boy who clings to her begging for "hugs and kisses to stop the pain" is the missing Crown Prince! When Chu Yan regains his memory, pursuers surround the temple. He grabs the fleeing Xiaotang and holds her tight: "Where do you think my empress is going?"
