Elder Zhou lives alone in his old house. One day, a girl named Xianglian suddenly arrives, claiming she’s here to take care of him as entrusted by an old friend. Xianglian always busies herself with something late at night—her lily congee tastes exactly like his late wife’s, and the old sweater she mends hides the embroidery pattern of his deceased daughter. Until Aunt Zhang from the neighborhood mentions, “This girl accompanied a patient in the oncology ward last year,” Elder Zhou takes out the album from the bottom of his chest and finds that Xianglian’s features are identical to his daughter who passed away ten years ago… And the diagnosis note Xianglian hides under her pillow clearly reads “advanced lung cancer.”
