Su Wanwan, the neglected eldest daughter of the Prime Minister, is forced to marry General Gu Yanzhi, the 'Kingdom Protector' rumored to have 'killed three fiancées.' On their wedding night, Gu leaves coldly with 'know your place,' and Su thinks she'll live in loneliness—until she finds Gu secretly sending her tonics and shielding her from assassins. It turns out Gu has recognized Su since she saved him at the lantern festival three years ago, but he dared not show his feelings due to the emperor's suspicion of his military power. When a concubine frames Su for danger, Gu risks his life to save her, and they finally confess their love. Yet the emperor's test of Gu's military power looms—can their love, born from a substitute marriage and misunderstandings, survive the court's schemes?
