In 1931, as war clouds loom over Shanghai, Lin Wanqing, the young wife of a chamber of commerce leader, loses her husband just three months after marriage. Faced with the Japanese coveting her family's business and betrayal from her own men, she transforms from a pampered lady into a "iron-blooded sister-in-law." To her surprise, the mysterious savior at her husband's assassination scene is Chen Mo, her first love and an underground communist she has hidden in her heart for ten years. Torn between the obsession to uncover her husband's death, the rekindled love with Chen Mo, and the choice of national survival, Lin Wanqing tears off her fragile shell in the flames of war and writes a legend of "sister-in-law" with wisdom and pride.
