Lin Wan, a tavern owner in Jiangnan, spends his days selling wine with his childhood sweetheart Azhu, thinking he’ll live a quiet life forever. Until one day, a cold, beautiful woman bursts in with a sword: “Your Majesty, it’s time to return to the palace and reclaim the throne.” Lin Wan learns he’s the late emperor’s son, sent away in secrecy years ago. Before he can refuse, the tavern is burned down that night, and Azhu is kidnapped by the Regent’s men—“Either become emperor, or collect her corpse.” Caught between the ordinary life he cherishes and the tightening royal power struggle, Lin Wan is forced to don the dragon robe.
