Lin Zhao, a poor scholar, is forced to marry the aloof Princess Li Zhaoning. Branded a "useless son-in-law," he endures contempt from the royal family, plots from powerful ministers, and even his wife's coldness. Until the princess is framed for treason in a palace struggle—Lin Zhao finally drops his disguise: he's the "Shadow Lord" of the late emperor's secret guard, holding the empire's most mysterious intelligence network. While turning the tide to clear her name, he uses tenderness to melt her icy heart. From a mocked "kept man" to a wife-protecting madman and power player, they join hands to end chaos, becoming the empire's most legendary "First Princess Consort."
